Oklahoma Office of State Finance Streamlines American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Data Submissions and Reporting with Oracle
Oklahoma Office of State Finance Streamlines American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Data Submissions and Reporting with OracleOffice Generates Valuable Reports and Eases Regulatory Compliance
Redwood Shores, CA ? January 26, 2010 News Facts
? Oklahoma Office of State Finance implemented Oracle® Database , Oracle Warehouse Builder and Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus (Oracle BI Suite EE Plus), with the help of Oracle Consulting, to more effectively manage and improve visibility into American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding data.
? The Oracle software enables the Office of State Finance to effectively and efficiently manage and collect data related to awards, sub-awards and vendor payments from more than 25 state agencies and higher education institutions that have received Federal funding under ARRA and then automatically submit the data in reports mandated by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to the FederalReporting.gov Web site. The Oracle solution enables the department to better cleanse, combine and report the data, improving data accuracy.
? Prior to the Oracle implementation, the Office of State Finance was limited in its ability to drill down into the data to the individual award level. The Oracle solution enables the department to easily and quickly generate accurate, up-to-date ARRA reports, called Transparency reports, based on the data received from the state agencies. These reports, for example, outline the number of jobs created by different functions of government and within specific geographic locations, as well as highlight sub-award amounts categorized by award and payments made to vendors.
? In an effort to ensure full transparency and accountability for the state?s citizens, Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry has also ordered the creation of a Web site to track how each individual agency is using ARRA funds. In the near future, Oklahoma Office of State Finance plans to leverage its existing Oracle solution to support this Web site, which will enable citizens to access clear and concise information about the Federal stimulus initiative including graphs illustrating how much money the state has spent in a certain quarter, a breakdown of the spending by category, and the ability to drill down into spending figures, job creation statistics, and other data. Supporting Quote
? ?The ARRA project was most difficult, as underlying assumptions changed almost hourly and we had to face major challenges at every turn. The Oracle team responded beautifully, providing the proper levels of leadership and teamwork to make the project a success,? said Michael Clingman, director, Oklahoma Office of State Finance.
? "ARRA has made it clear that every taxpayer dollar spent on economic recovery must be subject to unprecedented levels of transparency and accountability. The State of Oklahoma is focused on providing this transparency to its citizens. With Oracle Consulting, the state is able to meet these new challenges with regard to collecting, monitoring and communicating key information about its use of public funds using dashboards developed with Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Plus, and leveraging data currently existing in its financial, planning and tracking systems,? said Steve Holdridge, group vice president, Government and Education Consulting, Oracle. eSilicon Improves Business Visibility and Efficiency with Oracle® Enterprise Performance Management and Business Intelligence
eSilicon Improves Business Visibility and Efficiency with Oracle® Enterprise Performance Management and Business IntelligenceSemiconductor Services Company Cuts Financial Reporting from Weeks to Hours with Oracle
Redwood Shores, CA ? January 25, 2010 News Facts eSilicon, a semiconductor Value Chain Producer (VCP) that provides a comprehensive suite of design, productization and manufacturing services, has chosen Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) and Business Intelligence (BI) software to improve planning and productivity and deliver a single version of the truth for business critical information. With Oracle, eSilicon has achieved greater visibility into company performance and cut its reporting processes from a few weeks down to hours, and in some cases, minutes. Key components of Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle EPM and BI software supports a broad range of strategic, financial and operational management processes that enable organizations to become smart, agile and aligned. Better Financial Forecasting, Planning and Analysis with a Single Version of the Truth Prior to Oracle, eSilicon managed financial forecasting and planning with spreadsheets. The manual process was time consuming, error-prone and lacked security, version control and data integrity. To automate its reporting process and meet global demands for real-time information, eSilicon implemented Oracle Hyperion Planning, Oracle Hyperion Workforce Planning, Oracle Essbase and Oracle Data Integrator. eSilicon selected Oracle EPM and BI software based on ease of use, cost-efficiency, robust functionality, and ability to integrate seamlessly with its existing systems and applications including the Oracle E-Business Suite. eSilicon rolled out the software in just three months to select global stakeholders, enabling the company to consolidate cross-office data between applications to obtain a single source of information regarding budgets, bookings, billings and backlog, statistical information, head count, and other key business variables. eSilicon has also eliminated the complexity of managing multiple forecasts ? allowing it to now easily run comparisons and variable analysis in real-time. In addition, the consolidated Oracle-based planning system allows users to easily create, populate and distribute custom reports, run ?what-if? scenarios, forecast for both financial and non-financial metrics, such as headcount, and more. While currently a dozen finance and business people are accessing the new Oracle solutions, eSilicon plans to extend Oracle Hyperion Planning and Oracle Essbase to all business users, including sales, marketing, operations and the executive staff in the future. Supporting Quote ?Prior to Oracle we were laboring under time pressure and error-prone spreadsheets to manage our financial forecasting process ? making it impossible to quickly do comparisons and get a real-time view into the performance of our business,? said Larry Peyton, director of financial planning and analysis, eSilicon. ?In the current economic environment, we have to be agile and move with the changing dynamics of our business. We could no longer afford to wait for reports to see how we were progressing towards our corporate goals. With Oracle we were able to quickly consolidate our mission critical data into one database and provide a single version of the truth for key metrics like revenue and spending. Reports that used to take weeks can be pulled in minutes. Oracle has allowed us to become more nimble, proactive and to manage our business more effectively.? Supporting Resources

Georgian College Runs Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise on Oracle® Database 11g Grid
Georgian College Runs Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise on Oracle® Database 11g GridUpgrade Improves Application Performance, Availability and Scalability
Redwood Shores, CA ? January 25, 2010 News Facts In an effort to improve the high availability, performance and scalability of its Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise applications, Georgian College of Ontario, Canada, has implemented Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Real Application Clusters, Automatic Storage Management and Oracle Clusterware, Oracle announced today. In February 2009, Georgian College went into production with a four-node Oracle Database cluster running industry-standard servers and Linux powering enterprise applications used by students, faculty and administration. The upgrade to a clustered database environment was part of a larger project to modernize its IT systems that serve Georgian College?s seven campuses, approximately 10,000 full-time students, 28,000 part-time students, and 1,700 full-time and part-time staff. Enhanced Application Availability, Performance and Scalability Drivers behind Georgian College?s upgrade to Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Real Application Clusters were: To enhance the performance and uptime of its PeopleSoft Enterprise applications (version 9.0) spanning Campus Solutions, Financial Management, Human Capital Management, among others; and, Deliver a scalable system to handle spikes in traffic such as during student registration periods as well as accommodate a growing enrollment over the coming years. The college migrated off of a legacy system that was expensive to maintain from a cost and resources perspective, and that also struggled under the burden of high volume of transactions during previous student registration periods resulting in downtime for student registration and administrative systems. Since the upgrade, Georgian College?s registrar office has experienced increased application performance and availability levels enabling the office to cut the registration window in half from what it was previously. Overall, the college?s testing ? which concentrated on how various ancillary and legacy systems would behave in a cluster ? revealed few issues and a dramatic boost in performance. Georgian College?s production and test clusters are comprised of four Dell M600s with Dual X5450 4-core Xeon Processors and 64 GB RAM. Supporting Quote ?Reliability, performance and scalability were deciding factors behind our decision to move to Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Real Application Clusters,? said Terry Speare, Senior DBA, Georgian College. ?Now our PeopleSoft Enterprise applications are performing like a top. Our constituents are ecstatic with the application uptime and performance we?re experiencing.? Supporting Resources
